Sun Lodge, Peru VT: Review

First built in 1975 as a typical ski lodge, what was once simply known as the Lodge At Bromley is now the brightly named Sun Lodge. In Peru VT, this 50 room hotel sits at the base of Bromley Mountain.

The name change came with a total transformation in December 2024, and it’s as sunny and hot (ambience-wise) as its name.

About Sun Lodge, Peru Vermont

Owned by the Migis Hotel Group – the hotel is practically unrecognizable from its former iteration. It’s bright, artsy, fun, cool, and comfy as hell. Plus – it’s a ski-in-ski out accommodation in winter, and a stone’s throw amble over to Bromley’s Adventure Mountain in warmer seasons.

Fifteen minutes from Manchester – and its festivals – it’s no surprise that performers headlining nearby book a stay here.

Hikers love it, too. That’s because the Appalachian Trail “brushes up” against the summit of Bromley Ski Resort summit. Through AP hikers can come in for a bite or drink, or splurge on a stay and shower.

Lobby of Sun Lodge Peru VT

First Impressions of Sun Lodge

Sun Lodge is an unexpected delight. It is, in the most basic terms, a fun boutique hotel on a family ski mountain.

Check in at a small two-person desk and then take in the gestalt of the lobby. The space – separated into “rooms” by arched doorways – blends young Gen-Z and serious art collector vibes.

Works of various moods and artists cover the walls; there’s a shuffleboard table amongst clusters of plush seating and cocktail tables.

The scene is welcoming and eye-catching: reflecting the eclectic sensibilities of actual people – and not some corporate power. Guests who are obsessed with design will love it here.

Rooms at Sun Lodge

Guest rooms are pretty spare – but that’s because you’ll be more occupied by what’s outside than what’s indoors. The only decorative items, really, are posters on the walls.

Rooms sport platform beds with a simple wooden headboards, flannel plaid armchairs, drafting table-like desks with Pixar lamp and leather chair. The bed, I have to say, is the Main Event – as it’s one of the most comfortable I’ve slept in in months. Bathrooms are small, but brightly lit, with on-trend stone tile floors. Salt and Stone toiletries add to the cool factor.

As I mentioned above, however, the views take the cake. Especially if you book a balcony room facing Bromley Mountain (see photo above). It’s so close, you can almost touch it.

Trailhead Bar at Sun Lodge Peru VT

Trailhead Bar And Restaurant

Once dark outside, the popular Trailhead Bar lights up with downhillers fresh from the slopes.  The outdoor deck is huge – and THE place to hang out, even in cold weather – to watch skiers on the hill if you’ve had enough and come in early. I stayed off season, but was told that this place – due to its proximity – crushes it and is packed with ski bunnies and hunnies in Winter.

The Trailhead Restaurant, brightened up from its former dark hues, has been winning raves for the upscale pub food as well.

Amenities at Sun Lodge

Discounted Lift Tickets and Adventure Park tickets for guests.

Filtered water dispenser to fill up personal water bottles.

An outside fire pit moves around from just outside hotel to the base of Bromley. When the Trailhead Bar is thrumming – many guest take their drinks outside to warm up by the fire.

There are table games galore (see in the basement, below) – a family favorite.

And, the greatest amenity for a ski lodge – it’s just a two second glide down to the main ski lift from right outside the door.

Basement Game Room at Sun Lodge VT

Sun Lodge Basement Rec Room

Downstairs serves as a large game room with pool table, ping pong, fuzeball, and air hockey tables. There are no video games, but you will find an “imagination corner” – popular with future drama-school toddlers and kids. This floor is hugely popular for parents and their children after skiing.

Ski Equipment Storage

Storing your ski gear is as easy as pie. Just coast down to the basement door of the lodge, enter the first room, and store your skis, poles, boots, and other gear. (Ski boots not allowed on the lobby/restaurant floor for obvious reasons).

Bromley Mountain

Ski every day in snowy winter – and don’t worry about getting in your car once here. Bromley Mountains’s ski lift is practically outside the basement door – and your eatery is right in house. In summer, Bromley opens as an Adventure park: with water and Alpine slides, a ropes course, and more. Ask about discounted tickets at the Sun Lodge desk.
