Brewster House B and B Review: Freeport ME

Located steps from the center of downtown Freeport ME, a short walk from outlet stores and, everything LL Bean, the 7-room Brewster House B&B, owned by couple David Noel and Kelleigh Dulany, is both traditional New England AND novel in four clear ways.
1. It’s got an authentic Scandinavian-style sauna and cold plunge spa – Dryppe – in the back yard.
2. One of the owners, David Noel, is a professional chef, mentored by David Burke in a few famous New York City restaurants (e.g. Park Avenue Kitchen, and as a “grillmaster” at Smith & Wollensky). His Brewster House breakfasts are legendary.

3. The small lobby features both five-tap beer and two-tap wine dispensers – so guests can pour their own for a modest cost (on the honor system).
4. The Brewster House B&B has been offering EV Chargers to guests since 2015 – one of the first in the state of Maine to do so.

First Impressions of Brewster House B&B
Brewster House B&B sits right on Main Street – a neighbor to the Harraseeket Inn – and within a short walk of downtown shops.
Owner, Kelleigh Dulany conveys a rare mix of NYC cool (she worked at Comedy Central and Discovery Channel) and Yankee Ingenuity (having launched her own Sauna and Cold Plunge company, Dryppe, in the Inn’s backyard). She and her husband, David, are pretty understated about their property and initiatives, letting the space speak for itself.

So, friendly Kelleigh provides a quick tour of amenities and common areas and then leaves you to relax. It’s easy to imagine settling into an overstuffed sofa or chair in the parlor, or on a colorful rocking chair on the side porch, and just chilling after a day of power-shopping or adventuring.

Breakfast at Brewster House B&B
It’s no surprise that guests return again and again for the Brewster House breakfasts alone. Chef David prides himself on not repeating a meal for seven days, allowing week-long guests to experience something different every morning in a delightful blue-walled dining area.

My 3-course gourmet breakfast began with French Press coffee, a glass of orange-hibiscus juice, and yogurt brulé with homemade wild Maine blueberry compote. This was followed by shirred eggs in a roasted pancetta cup topped with fontina cheese and chives; and then a brioche amaretto French toast topped with almond slivers, cherry infused maple syrup, and homemade whipped cream – plated with Dave-crafted Maple Sage sausage. It was, in a word, ambrosial.

Rooms at Brewster House B&B
Guest rooms exude traditional elegance – with crisp white duvets covering the dreamiest of beds. For the optimal romantic getaway, book one of the fireplace rooms – like the Cape Neddick Lighhouse Room #2.

Dryppe Sauna and Cold Plunge
Step outside, down the driveway, and into a Nordic fantasy. This is Dryppe – a serene world unto itself. The sight might scream Finland, but both the gorgeous Scandinavian-style Sauna and Ice Bath are made in the USA.
According to Kelleigh, Dryppe is Inspired by Scandinavian sauna culture and grounded in Maine craftsmanship, Dryppe blends natural materials, thoughtful design, and a spirit of Wabi-Sabi, celebrating imperfection, balance, and impermanence.
For now, Dryppe is available for guests only, and must be booked (for a fee) in advance. It’s the perfect romantic couple or girlfriend wind-down after a hectic day.
