Capture the Caribbean

When was the last time you took a day off? If you have to think about it, maybe it’s been too long.  Last year more than half of Americans didn’t use all their paid vacation time; losing out on much needed mental health breaks, and wasting more than $65 Billion in forfeited benefits. This year, Getaway Mavens is participating in Project Time: Off National Plan for a Vacation Day on January 30, 2018. We’re working with Choice Hotels’ Capture the Caribbean Campaign, to encourage and inspire people to get away from the grind and plan a trip to the Caribbean. You’ll find just how easy (and budget-friendly) it is to plan a Caribbean Getaway, plus there’s a chance to win a tropical vacation (details below.)

Yoga - The Abacos

Recharge–mind and soul–in the Abaco Islands.

Take it from the experts, getaways are essential. “Escape the cycle of burnout,”says TV travel show host Samantha Brown, a spokeswoman for the effort, in one of four videos promoting Project Time: Off. “Employees who don’t take vacation are less likely to receive a raise, bonus, or promotion.”

All month long, we’re going to showcase some of our favorite Caribbean destinations–some as close as a two hour flight from the Northeast. As always in our popular getaway guides, we’ll share all the best things to do, what to eat, and where to stay. We’re going to make it easy to get away from the grind, use your paid time off, and plan a trip to the Caribbean.

Sunfish Sail - Dominican Republic

Wouldn’t you rather be sailing the warm clear seas of the Dominican Republic?

Because flights to the Caribbean are relatively short–just 2 hours from NYC to Bermuda, or 3 hours to the Bahamas–fares rarely break the bank. Most often they range from $400-500 roundtrip. Typically, the biggest expense of a Caribbean vacation is the cost of a hotel, but even there, you can find deals.

Choice Hotels is one of the world’s largest hotel companies with over 6,500 hotels franchised in more than 40 countries and territories, including a selection of properties in the Caribbean. Choice’s Caribbean hotels are arguably the best value in the Caribbean. They are a great option for people looking to explore a beach vacation without a hefty price tag.

Magens Bay Beach - St Thomas, US Virgin Islands

Idyllic Magens Bay in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, is back to being one of the most beautiful beaches in the world after being hit by back to back hurricanes.

A few islands were hit hard recently, but the people and nature are resilient , and most have bounced back. Choice’s Caribbean properties are open for business and are ready for couples and families to enjoy.
